SE-SKP Statutory packaging fees (NPA) 1.1.2025
Statutory Packaging Fees for OGOship’s Customers Starting January 1, 2025
In accordance with new regulations introduced by the Swedish government, OGOship is required to collect and report packaging surcharges from January 1, 2025, if this is not done by our customers themselves. These surcharges are part of a national initiative in Sweden aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability through improved recycling and waste management practices.
What Are the Packaging Fees?
The fees will cover the cost of collecting and recycling the packaging materials used in transport packaging. The fees will be calculated based on the amount and type of packaging used by OGOship when packing orders for our customers and by the amount of transport packaging when the goods are delivered to us. The product packaging and the packaging materials owned by our customers are not in scope for OGOship's requirements for reporting.
Importantly, the new model promotes the use of environmentally friendly materials:
Packaging designed for material recycling will be subject to lower fees compared to packaging that is less recyclable. This creates an incentive to use sustainable solutions.
How This Impacts OGOship’s Customers
As this regulation affects all packaging handled in Sweden, the statutory fees will apply to all companies in Sweden that use packaging materials. OGOship has developed an efficient reporting system where OGOship reports the packaging material on behalf of the customer. The reporting cadence is once per quarter. OGOship charges a minimal service fee on top of the statutory service fees to cover for the costs of the time it takes for OGOship to execute the reporting. The estimated workload for OGOship is 30 minutes hourly work once per quarter.
Exemption: If OGOship’s Customers Handle NPA Compliance Independently
OGOship’s customers who already manage their NPA (Näringslivets Producentansvar) responsibilities independently will not be charged packaging fees by OGOship—provided that they submit valid documentation confirming that the necessary payments have been made directly to NPA.
What’s Required?
Documentation proving the NPA-related payments must be sent to OGOship’s customer service team.
Ways to Minimize Impact
To help reduce these fees, OGOship encourages its customers to consider the following:
- Optimize Packaging: Reduce unnecessary packaging volume or materials without compromising protection.
- Use Recyclable Materials: Prioritize sustainable materials that fall into the lower-fee categories.
- Stay Updated: Follow OGOship’s service updates and regulatory news to stay informed.
