Own packaging materials can be used within certain boundaries at all OGOship warehouses. Below are listed some things you need to consider.

Own packing materials are treated as regular selling items as far as warehousing is concerned. This means that there is a charge for the inbounding of the material, as well as the storage costs of the packaging material itself. The price of using your own packaging material varies by warehouse. Valid price can be found from the price list. Please note the cost is applied per shipment. 

If goods are stored at the warehouse in shippable branded boxes, the warehouse will ship that product in its own packaging material without repacking it. In case you want to use your own packaging materials (for example a fragile gift box) repacked into the warehouse’s shipping boxes, it needs to be productized into an SKU. 

• PFS specific: PFS warehouse only allows one type of own packing material to be used per merchant. They also require EAN/bar codes on all their own packaging materials!
• VNL specific: As a default, only one type of own packaging material can be used per merchant at the VNL warehouse. If more than one packaging material is used, those need to have a scannable bar code so the warehouse can identify which material is used for which product. If multiple packaging materials are in use, additional product row pricing will be applied.

Own packaging materials can be a cardboard box, e-commerce bag or bubble envelope. A cardboard box may be sealed with the merchant’s own packing tape. This is included in the “own packaging”-price.  

If you have any doubts, it is always better to send a physical sample of the packaging material and/or at least an image/video of the packaging material.

Please see below for allowed bags and envelopes. It should be easily sealable from one side only. It should be big enough to attach the freight label to it.

Standard cardboard boxes

The box below comes in a flat format to the warehouse and is rectangular in shape. These are quick and easy to assemble. Regular “own packaging”-price applies.

This type of box is generally referred to as an “American foldable box”.

Packaging materials differing from the standard shapes and sizes

Below are examples of packaging materials that need to be verified. These boxes need to be folded, which takes a longer time than for a normal taped box. Special pricing applies.

The easiest way to determine the cost is to send a physical sample to the warehouse and/or a video of how the packaging is folded.

Special packaging

Packaging materials containing special elements like ribbons, silk paper or differing from the standard rectangular shapes need verification. For example in the pictures below the folding takes longer than for a normal box and the box contains a ribbon, which can get stuck in transport. Boxes and wrappings like this need to be re-packed into a shipping box. Special pricing applies.
